Fun Family Events in Omaha This Coming Weekend

Now that November is upon us, there are many fun filled family activities around Omaha that are perfect for a day out of the house. We have listed a few below for this upcoming weekend that we hope will be of interest to you and are great for family members of all ages. Enjoy! 

Omaha’s Children’s Museum Forever Forest 
When: Friday, November 10th 
Where: Omaha Children’s Museum 
Duration: All day 

With the national tour of Forever Forest beginning right in our backyard, grab the family for a fun day of adventuring and learning the realities of forests throughout the world. Explore topics such as transportation needs, sustainability and selective harvesting, as well as the daily products that families use that are created from trees. This incredible exhibit features a mini, realistic replica of a Union Pacific engine, a tree top climber and kid-sized home for children to help build – and so much more! 


Life Without Boxes: Embracing Autism in Our Community 
When: Friday, November 10th
Where: Scott Conference Center
Duration: 8:00am – 4:30pm

If you are a family member, service provider, community member or advocate for bringing awareness and inclusion for individuals and families that are affected by autism, then this is a must-attend event! See nationally recognized speakers, community representatives and self-advocates address issues that people within all communities face, and the realistic community solutions that can be implemented. 

The Durham Museum Zoom into Nano 
When: Saturday, November 5th 
Where: The Durham Museum 
Duration: 10am – 5pm

Are you or your family interested in or curious about nanotechnology? If so, head to the Durham Museum this Saturday to see a variety of large-scale, immersive experiences centered around the world within nanotechnology. The event features a full body interactive station where guests can use their hands to grab and pull apart virtual molecules, as well as zooming into tiny structures and devices through very high magnification to see the incredible beauty and awe of natural and manmade objects. 

Wayne State College Exhibit Explores Artistry of Teaching Art
When: Sunday, November 5th
Where: Wayne State College 
Duration: 4:30pm-5:30pm

This is a must-see event for all the art enthusiasts in the Omaha area! The exhibit weaves together creativity, culture and media to stimulate learning for the young and old alike.

Free Fall Family Fun in Omaha

There is so much to look forward to now that fall has arrived– cooler weather, the holidays right around the corner and lots of free family events around town! We know it's difficult at times to find activities the whole family will enjoy that won’t break the bank. Below is a list of events around Omaha that will get the whole family out of the house and are sure put a smile on everyone’s face! So grab your family (and leave your wallet behind) to enjoy the cooler weather and some free fall family fun in Omaha! 

First Responders Action Day is put on by the Omaha Police Department and the First Responders Foundation, and is an entire day packed with learning and action for the kids. There are exciting demos held throughout the day such as rescuing submerged vehicles, robots in action, blowing up pumpkins and much more!

At the Fly into Fall Kite Festival families can enjoy giant kite flying demonstrations, food trucks, a rock wall, bounce houses, music and much more. It is sure to be great fun for all ages!

Harvest Fest will be offering pumpkin painting, live music, bounce houses and free hayrack rides. Show off your eating skills at the pumpkin pie eating content, or enjoy craft vendors and specialty products from local farmers.

Harvest Fun Days is the perfect place for kids to enjoy creating fall crafts, take a ride to the colorful pumpkin patch, explore the surrounding trails and much more!

Omaha Restaurant Week: The 10 Tastiest Days of the Year!

Are you a lover of all things food? Have you been itching to try new restaurants around Omaha? Well now you have an excuse to put the pots and pans away for a few days and step out on the town for Omaha Restaurant Week! From September 15th through the 24th, take a delicious adventure and celebrate the exciting and unique culinary scene around the Omaha metro area. Dishes range from legendary beef burgers and steaks, to the classic Reuben sandwich, and cuisines include farm-to-fork fresh, comfort food, and everything in between! The city has become a top destination for culinary adventurers, and Omaha Restaurant Week is a great time for diners to explore all that the area has to offer at a reduced price.

Restaurants participating in Omaha Restaurant Week will be offering an exclusive special menu featuring multi-course prix fixe meals ranging from $20, $30, $40 and/or $50 per person, with patrons choosing from their choice of appetizers, entrees and desserts. There are no passes our coupons required, and there is no limit to how many restaurants you may dine at during the week. So take the opportunity to branch out and explore new dining options, or enjoy old, local favorites at a discounted price. Calling all runners! With summer quickly coming to an end you may think so does the opportunity to participate in many of the marathons and charity runs around the metro area. Great Events taking place around Omaha this Weekend!

We may be following up a holiday weekend, but Omaha is filled with great events for the weekend of July 7-9.  Here are a few of our favorites:

First Friday's at Old Market- Visit the fantastic Art Galleries celebrating creative local artists while strolling down the beautiful brick lined street of Omaha's Historic District. You can also ride 'Olley the Trolley' for free between the different venues.

Midwest Paranormal History Ghost Tour- explore the more 'sinister' parts of the history of Omaha with this fascinating tour! Learn about the legends, lore and facts regarding Omaha's past.

Red, White and You...Patriotic Night at the Museum- Dedicated to First Responders and Veterans. Meet local Firemen, Omaha veterans and more.

Omaha Comic-Con- Unleash your inner superhero at this great annual event! Celebrate your favorite films and books along with Metro's own comics and pop culture expo! 

Sounds of Summer Concert Series- bring your blanket or lawn chairs and enjoy a wonderful summer evening at the amphitheater for a fantastic lineup of concerts all summer long.

Omaha Farmers Market at Old Market- Peruse the great selection of fresh fruits, vegetables, flowers and more at the spectacular Omaha Farmers Market.

The Dinosaur Safari- Perfect for the whole family! Omaha Children's Museum presents the great Dinosaur Safari with hands on experiences for the kids, 3 climbable dinosaurs and an 8ft T-Rex!

Light Up The Sky This 4th of July!

This weekend starts the celebrations of our nation's birthday! With so many options, it can be hard to decide where to go! Luckily Omaha is the largest city in Nebraska, so there is something for everyone! Here are some of the best spots in Omaha to enjoy great food, music, and entertainment.

The Red, White and Zoo event is family friendly event that takes place every year at Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium. The event lasts all weekend, starting Saturday, July 1 through Tuesday, July 4 from 9:00AM to 5:00PM. Entertainment includes bounce houses, music, and special animal encounters for all ages. Activities are included with admission - regular zoo admission fees apply, free admission for members.

The 65th Annual J.E. George Boulevard Fourth of July Parade starts at 10:00AM on Tuesday at J.E. George Boulevard and Nicholas Street. This Omaha tradition parade takes place every year and draws thousands to start 4th of July. People ride decorated bikes, wagons, homemade floats, and much more through the city in celebration. 

If you're looking for a magnificent firework display we have just the place for you. The College Home Run Derby and the Omaha World-Herald Annual Independence Day fireworks are a tradition for all. TD Ameritrade Park has an amazing display every year after the College Home Run Derby. Over 100,000 people gather to celebrate and enjoy the show. Tickets can be purchased here. Kids ages 3-12: $8, adults: $12, four pack: $36.

Baseball Fans and Runners Unite!

Baseball fans and runners unite! This Sunday, June 25, 2017 the baseball-themed Road to Omaha 5k Run kicks off Championship Finals Week of the 2017 NCAA Men's College World Series! The beautiful scenic run starts at Lewis and Clark Landing with a lap around the renowned TD Ameritrade Park Omaha. The run kicks off at 8 AM.

All participants who pre-register receive a custom t-shirt and a Road to Omaha medal at the finish line. The registration fee is $30 for Masters category and $25 for 18 and younger.

Packets can be picked up for pre-registration on Friday June 23 from 10 AM - 3 PM or Saturday, June 24 from 10 AM - 3 OM at the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge Plaza (705 Riverfront Drive). You may also register in person during the packet pickup times. If you register online after 5 PM on Wednesday, June 21 you will need to pick up your race number and event shirt on race day, Sunday June 25 between 6 - 7:45 AM.

 

The male and female overall winners for both 18 and under and Masters brackets receive 2 tickets to Game 2 of the College World Series Finals on Tuesday, June 27. All other age group winners receive College World Series swag.

This event is presented by the NCAA and College World Series of Omaha, Inc., all proceeds go toward the Omaha Parks Foundations.

 

School's Out For The Summer!

School is out and summertime is finally here! The Omaha Children’s Museum offers a variety of summer camps and activities to keep your children busy during their summer break. From Mini Jedi Training and My Princess Dream to Dinosaur Safaris and Silly Sports, there’s a little something for everyone.

Programs run from middle of June through the beginning of August. Space is limited and handled on a first-come, first-served basis. If you would like your child to participate in all day camp, they can sign up for a morning and an afternoon session and lunch will be provided from 12-1:00PM. Half-day campers need to bring their own lunch.

Week long camps are $120 for members and $135 for nonmembers. Ages start at 2-years-old and are specific to each of the programs. All camps are run by highly trained and experienced museum staff. All campers receive a Summer Camp 2017 T-Shirt!

Wizards, Wands, and Cloaks... Oh My!

Do wizards, wands, Quidditch and vanishing cloaks tickle your fancy? Do you want to take on the magical adventures of Harry Potter? Well come embark on your wizarding wonders at the 2nd Annual Wizarding World Festival and Quidditch Tournament in Thurman, Iowa (just a 45 minute drive from Omaha, NE). 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

On Saturday June 10, 2017 from 6:00 - 10:00 PM the festivities commence. Holiday at Hogwarts has teamed up with Moonstone to bring you an amazing games and activities galore. Find out what house you belong to, test your Quidditch playing skills, and cast magical spells at the flick of your wand. 

Costumes are welcome and encouraged! This year's activities include:

13th Annual Wine, Blues, Beer and Hot Air Balloon Festival

The official end of spring and launch of summer is here. Come join Soaring Wings Vineyard & Brewing for a festival of fun. Saturday, June 3, at 3:30 PM, the gates of the 13th Annual Spring Wine, Blues, Beer and Hot Air Balloon Festival open.

There will be live music featuring:

  • 4:00 - 5:00 PM Tim Budig Band (OMA Nom)
  • 5:30 - 6:30 PM Frank Ace Band (Topeka Nom)
  • 7:00 - 8:00 PM Amanda Fish Band (KC Nom)
  • 9:30 - 10:00 PM All Band Jam Session

From 3:30 - 9:30PM the Hog Wild Pit Bar-B-Q Food Truck will be on site serving some of their favorite featured items. 

Weather permitting, there will be the Hot Air Balloon launch filling the sky with a beautiful display of colors!
