While Omaha has a longstanding reputation for having some of the country’s best and tastiest steaks, many people don’t realize that our beautiful state has so much more to offer its residents! Omaha has a population of just under one million, which allows the city to retain a small community feel, while also boasting many features of a big city that people love. With a growing economy, top rated restaurants, affordable living and endless entertainment options, we tend to agree with the notion that Omaha is one of the best places in the Midwest to live and work – and we are confident that you too will agree after reading this blog post!

While the chic culinary scene in Omaha may not be the top reason many people choose to settle down here, we tend to think of it as a huge bonus! You will find many chefs around town that once left Omaha to train in larger cities, but have since returned to share their culinary talents with their home town. Residents and guests to the area are always pleased to find mouthwatering dishes and booming restaurants around every corner of Omaha. Next, when it comes to entertainment, residents young and old alike are able to fill their calendars year round with fun and exciting things to do. Everything from thrilling sporting events and theatrical plays, to musicals, food festivals and much more!

And did you know that Omaha is home to The Joslyn Art Museum, which is one of the top art museums in the country. Also, Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium is located here and boasts the largest indoor rainforest in North America, and is another top destination for guests year round. Are you always thinking of the next big idea and constantly dreaming of that company you’ve always wanted to start? If so, you are in luck! With the low cost of living and thriving startup scene, Omaha is a top rated city to start a business in. Lastly, Omaha is known for its safe and friendly neighborhoods, as well as top rated school districts, which are important lines to check off when looking for a new place for you and your family to settle into. It is safe to say that here in Omaha, we truly have it all!

Family Holiday Events In Omaha You Won’t Want To Miss!

by Nancy Heim-berg

If you have been following our weekly blogs then you know we let you in on all the fun events, festivals and activities that happen around Omaha each weekend. Our hope is for you to spend some quality time out of the house with family and friends exploring all that our beautiful city has to offer, and make some fun and lasting memories in the process! With Christmas just a few weeks away (we can’t believe it either!), we are sure many people will find themselves trying to find gifts so they can start checking off their list, preparing their home for out of town visitors and putting together a holiday food menu – all while trying to enjoy the holiday spirit and remember what this season is all about. Putting all the hustle and bustle aside, we wanted to dedicate this blog post to some special holiday events that are taking place around Omaha in the coming days and weeks. These events are the perfect excuse to put your to-do-list away and spend some quality time with family enjoying this joyous time of year.

The first can’t-miss event we wanted to highlight is Christmas at Union Station, which has grown to become one of the regions top holiday destination and is a long standing tradition for families of the area. Held at The Durham Museum, visitors can expect to meet Santa himself, see holidays from around the globe and be in awe of the forty-foot, breathtaking Christmas tree. It truly is a spectacle and holiday experience you won’t want to miss!  The next event we wanted to point out is Miracle on Farnam, which is a stunning showcase of creative imagination and talented artistry. With over 20 window displays, each collection was created by students, independent artists or local nonprofits, and is the perfect place for a stroll to take in and appreciate the undeniable local talent.

Can you think of many things better than Holidays in The Old Market? We didn’t think so! Omaha’s Old Market Entertainment District is ready to show off its yuletide spirit by tickling your senses with fresh, scented greenery and bright, festive lights. Inside you will be pleased to find holiday specials that will draw you in and make you want to explore the beautiful boutiques and tasty restaurants/pubs. Lastly, if you really want to make your children happy this holiday season, be sure to check out Santa’s Magic at the Omaha Children’s Museum. This holiday tradition is the perfect way to bring your family together with the magic of the season, and not only get a chance to visit with Santa, but also enjoy a short interactive show with the Snow Queen and elves. It is an event that you won’t want to miss this Christmas!

Halloween Safety Reminders For Your Home

by Nancy Heim-berg

If you are a fan of pumpkin carving, costume stores and everything spooky, then we bet you are excited that Halloween is just a few days away! And while you may be daydreaming about your get-up and enjoying the thought of all the little trick-or-treaters that will soon be knocking on your door, you also should stop to think about some safety precautions to take to ensure everyone has a fun and safe holiday. And lucky for you we have you covered on that front. If you are interested in a few safety tips for your home this Halloween, then keep reading below!

Our first tip for you this Halloween is to make sure that the front of your home is well lit. While it may seem more haunting and spooky to keep your home dark, the dramatic effect is not worth someone potentially tripping or falling from not being able to see clearly. You are also more likely to ward off intruders and any criminal activity if your home is well lit at night. Next, you want to be sure to clear walking paths of any debris such as leaves, tangled roots and displaced branches. Many young and eager trick-or-treaters will do anything and everything they can to collect their sweet treats in a flash, so be sure to have a clear path for them to jog, run and skip to your front door.

While you may be tempted to dress your pet up in a festive costume and have them be a helping paw to hand out candy, it is best to keep them indoors and away from all commotion. No matter how well behaved Winston may be, pets can have anxiety with all the noise, strangers and masks that come with the holiday. Lastly, you should always be aware and attentive to fire safety. We know how much fun you had carving your pumpkins and just how much a candle brings the creation to life. But an open flame can be dangerous, especially if a dinosaur accidentally knocks over the lit pumpkin with its tale. So instead, maybe think about a flameless candle as an alternative to keep everyone safe and away from open flames this Halloween.
